Registration open: Migrant Women in Europe

University Women of Europe (UWE) warmly welcomes you to the next UWE free webinar “Migrant Women in Europe” which will be held on Monday, 4th of April 2022 at 17.00 – 19.00 CET.
The COVID19 pandemic and the recent invasion of Ukraine have made the situation of refugees in Europe even more desperate. According to the UNHCR, more than 2.8 million people have fled Ukraine into neighbouring countries. This number grows daily. We need to identify how can we help and assist more at European level. All our young members are invited to contribute. Prepare your questions, comments in advance about this topic.
Aisha Alshawaf, Vice President University Women of Europe will moderate the event.
First speaker invited will be Adriana S.Thiago, Communications Officer at Migrant Women Network Organization , a very active migrant-women-led feminist platform that advocates for the rights, freedoms and dignity of migrant, refugee and ethnic minority women and girls in Europe. Adriana is a Portuguese-Brazilian feminist, graduate in International Relations. Her main areas of interest is the movement against sexual exploitation and the creation and continuing of a global feminist liberation movement. She is also the co-convenor of the Young Women’s Movement of ENoMW, the Radical Girlsss.
Our next guest is Dr. Basak Ovacik a funding member and the first president of the Turkish Association of University Women, Istanbul branch, Vice President Graduate Women International (GWI). She is very familiar with the refugees topics which are widely discussed for years in her country and in her association. They are working hard to raise awareness on education, human rights, violence against women, women’s human rights. She will speak about the Hegg Hoffet Fund for Displaced Women Graduates, so we can discuss more how it can assist now the graduate women, students from Ukraine.
