Fund for Female Filmmakers
In May 2019, Film Fund Luxembourg and Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland launched the call for projects for a newly created Co-Development Fund for Female Filmmakers, dedicated to support the co-development of a range of new projects written and/or directed by women. The fund will support the careers of female writers and directors during the crucial development stage of a project, seeking to reduce gender disparity in the film industry and marketplace and to improve female representation in the screen industry.
Eligible projects must meet the following criteria:
The project is a co-development (feature-length (min. 70’) fiction, documentary, animation, TV drama).Television projects must be a dramatic series, animated series or animated feature film.
A co-development agreement and – schedule between the Luxembourg-based and the Ireland-based production companies need to be in place at application stage. Projects co-developed with a third producer are also eligible if the Ireland- and Luxembourg-based producers retain significant financial and creative control of the project.
Applicants must hold the necessary rights to the material to be developed.
The project presents cultural content and has the potential to interest audiences in both countries and transcend national borders.
The co-producers must ensure that the project meets the criteria of the public funding organisation in their respective countries.

Successful co-productions between Ireland and Luxembourg include the recent hit Black 47 (Lance Daly) and the Academy Award nominated films The Breadwinner (Nora Twomey) and Song of the Sea(Tomm Moore) to name but a few.
