Invitation to UWE Conference & AGM 2018

We are pleased to invite you to the next Annual General Meeting of the University Women of Europe in Rome which will be combined, as usual, with a two day conference: 21-24th of June 2018. The conference in Rome, Italy brings together University Women from all over Europe in a wonderful and inspiring environment. The Conference theme is Women in Stem professions, Challenges – Support – Education. We aim to focus on how to create opportunities and support systems for women in STEM professions.

What challenges do they face? How can we combine the technological innovations with empowerment of women and girls? These innovations demand different skills and give different opportunities on the employment market. Women still seem to choose humanistic studies.

How do we improve the working conditions in STEM professions, so more women will chose STEM studies and professions. How do we create equal opportunities for women and girls in a world that changes so rapidly? Those questions and more you will be able to discuss at the UWE Conference 2018 in Rome. As a special event we will present the material on the Pay Gap in several countries on Saturday morning 23^rd of June.

We are looking forward to meeting you to exchange ideas and create energy and commitment. The conference is open to all members of the University Women of Europe and their friends.

Workshop proposals

We welcome proposals for workshops on (aspects of) the conference theme. Submit your proposal to boarduwe@gmail.com ultimately by the 30th of April 2018 including 10 lines as a summary and a maximum of 300 words on the content of the workshop. Workshops should last no longer than 40 minutes, with approximately 15 minutes presentation. A comparison with at least one other European country is preferable. Deadline for workshop proposals: 30 April 2018.

Conference Venue and hotel

The conference will take place in the heart of Rome, not far from the Cicerone Hotel. We have found a wonderful luxurious four star hotel in the Vatican Area a very reasonable price. Hotel Cicerone is right in the centre and you can walk to all the famous monuments in Rome: Saint Peter’s Basilica, Vatican Museums, Castle St Angelo, Mole Adriana, Piazza del Popolo, Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. Of course you will also be able to go shopping along the main street as Via Cola di Rienzo and a lively fresh food market. We have a very special arrangement and need to know who is going to visit Cicerone Hotel as soon as possible.

Sunday 24^th June 2018

• One day guided tour Rome Colosseum; Venice square, Vittoriano, Museum Capitolini, Campidoglio, Imperium Forum, Mercati di Traiano. A busy and exciting day including lunch.  At least ten people maximum 25 (of  course we can form more groups). Price: 40 EUR each person

• Option to go to one of the many museums or hop on hop off bus.

Monday 25th and Tuesday 26^th of June 2018

• Two day tour Villa d’Este and Villa Adriana. Approximately 30 kilometres out of Rome a lovely historical village with great views . Stay over in a small hotel with hot water baths. From there it is easy to go to the airport. Plan a return trip in the afternoon. Price: 240 EUR per person

Participation Fee Conference
The fee includes documentation, coffee, tea, lunches and dinners during the conference . The gala dinner at Barberini Palace is € 60,00 including beverages.

Note: Non-members will pay 30 Euro’s extra for a year membership fee of University Women of Europe. The conference fee includes conference registration, all lunches, coffee/tea and conference, Roman Evening, documentation. If you would like to join us only for the festive dinner at a special location the fee is 45 Euro.
